Brandenburger Gate
Berlin with its lively cultural scene and its many places of interest is always worth a visit. One of the most visited places in the city, with its symbolic representation of the history of Berlin is the Brandenburger Gate. The gate was built 1788 until 1791, during the régime of the Prussian King Friedrich Wilhelm II. Today the gateis - after the years of the German separation – the national symbol for the unification of Germany. In addition to this historical symbol of Berlin, the city offers a vide variety of things to see and explore:

Alexanderplatz

During the separation of East and West Germany , it was the center of the capital of the DDR. The World Clock and the Fountain of Peoples Friendship are famous symbols of this area and the DDR esthetic. Towering over the area is the tallest man made structure in Germany, the Berliner Television Tower with it 386 meters. The newest and largest shopping center „Alexa“ offers its visitors to more than just shopping.

Nikolaiviertel
The reconstruction from 1981 – 1989 Nikolaiviertel is the old Berliner historical island surrounding the Nikolai Church, the oldest parish church in the city. Between the reconstructed historical buildings and modern apartments there are many restaurants, cafes, and shops that invite the visitor to take a walk and or shop. Places of interest are Ephraim-Palais, the Knoblauch-Haus, the „Gaststätte zum Nussbaum“ and the reconstructed „Gerichtslaube“ which was Berlins city hall during the middle Ages.

Hackescher Markt
The Hackescher Markt is at a junction between the cultural center and the cafes, bars and restaurants and is a famous starting point for excursions into the Berliner night life scene. At the northern part of the area one finds the „Hackeschen Höfe“, the largest enclosed courtyard in Germany. After being refurbished in the middle of the 1990s it has been retransformed into a highly lively mixture of art, culture, living area, shops und gastronomic establishments.

Gendarmenmarkt
The Gendarmenmarkt east of the Friedrichstraße, is considered to be one of the most beautiful squares in Europe. The central building of the square is the Schauspielhaus built 1818 – 1821 by Karl Friedrich Schinkel, today called the „Konzertsaal“. Bordering the north and the south of the square are the French Cathedral and the German Cathedral.

Unter den Linden
This historical Allee “Unter den Linden” leads from the historical city center to the Brandenburger Tor. The 1,5 kilometers of the Allee are boarded by royal palaces, theaters, libraries, and museums and international embassies and consulates.
